Wind tunnel tested! Our pop-up tent frames have been tested by an authorized international engineering institute. In testing, our 10x10ft E1 canopy tent with good ground securing withstood 60 mph winds—significantly more than the industry standard of 40 to 50 mph wind testing. While we don’t recommend setting up your tent in high winds, the testing demonstrates just how strong and durable Ecotent® canopy tents really are!

What Makes a Tent 'Windproof?'

Not all tents will stand up to the wind. While there’s really no such thing as a “windproof” canopy tent, a commercial-grade canopy tent with proper securing is reliable, even on very gusty days. Sturdy professional options like Ecotent® pop-up tents, are made differently. Here’s what sets them apart.

  • Strong Materials: Our tent frames are built from aircraft-grade, extruded, anodized aluminum. The material is light yet strong and corrosion-resistant, for a truly unwavering structure.

  • Durable Frame Design: Ribbed square aluminum legs and strong yet user-friendly frame components help Ecotent® canopy tents stand up to repeated use, even in windy weather.

  • Lasting Details: From our patented peg system instead of classic screws to our spacers, reinforcements, and plastic safety covers, the details of an Ecotent® protect the frame and fabrics from wear and tear in all kinds of weather.

  • Tough Fabrics: Ecotent® high-quality polyester fabrics give our tents maximum tear resistance for both the roof and sidewalls.

TENT SAFETY

OUR TIP for strong winds

Not sure how much wind is too much? With the right securing, our E1 series pop-up tents can withstand wind speeds of up to 60 mph, but some weather conditions can be too extreme even for any pop-up tent. Err on the side of caution and always know when it’s time to pack up and store away your tent rather than risk injury or tent damage. Luckily, our mobile-friendly designs mean disassembling your tent should never feel like a headache.

Simple yet effective

How Do I Secure My Canopy Tent in Windy Weather?

Done well, securing your tent can keep it safe and strong, even on very windy days. To decide which type of securing option is sturdiest for your tent, consider the following:

  • Ground conditions

  • Tent size

  • Expected weather conditions

Solid Ground: Concrete or paved surfaces provide ideal conditions for setting up and securing a pop-up tent with our 22lb or 44lb tent weights. For more stability, we recommend stacking several weights on top of one another.

Soft Ground: Our canopy tent ground anchors are perfect for soft ground like a lawn or field. Each set includes 4 or 6 tensioning straps, 4 or 6 pegs and a hammer.

For larger tents or harsher weather conditions, try doubling up on tent weights or using both tent weights and ground anchors.

How Much Weight Is Needed to Make My Tent Windproof, Even In Strong Winds?

Suggested Securing Weights by Tent Size

The larger the tent, the more weight you’ll need to properly secure it to the ground. When the winds get too rough, we recommend packing your tent away for safety. For lower-speed winds, refer to this chart to see the maximum wind speed that each size of tent (without sidewalls) can withstand and how much weight is needed to secure it in given wind conditions.

HOW DO CANOPY TENT SIDEWALLS CHANGE WIND PERFORMANCE?

In windy weather, Ecotent® sidewalls offer user-friendly all-around protection. Just be careful when it comes to the position of your canopy tent against the wind. Sidewalls provide the wind with a large surface area, so you can risk creating a “sail effect.” If the wind picks up, we recommend removing the sidewalls as soon as possible.

Our sidewalls are made from very strong, tear-resistant fabrics. Our durable velcro keeps them firmly attached to the roof, even in gusty and breezy weather. You can also connect sidewalls with velcro strips or zippers. With the latter, you can completely insulate the inside of the tent so you can keep drafts of air from entering the tent.

Closed sidewall

Classic. Attached in no time with Velcro straps, the closed side panel is a popular accessory option. On the one hand, it offers all-round protection from wind and weather, on the other hand, it creates additional printable advertising space.

Open Sesame

Come on in! The side panel with roller door invites customers or guests to step inside the canopy tent. The door can be completely opened and rolled up from the inside as well as from the outside by means of two zips.

Everything in view

Sides with window

Beautiful views. The side panel with PVC window allows you to look outside while it protects you from wind and weather. Thanks to the large panorama window, the canopy tent appears brighter and larger, creating an inviting atmosphere.

At waist level

Half-height sidewall

Ideal height. The half-height side panel enables direct customer contact at eye level. About one metre high, it is perfect for sales and trade fair stands. The crossbar with keder profile ensures a simple and stable attachment.

Even more capacity. Quickly assembled and fixed to the tent structure, the counter with its galvanized steel frame and glazed, wooden top is the perfect accessory for catering and event tents.
